Tom Thomson (1877–1917)
The emergence of Tom Thomson’s distinctive landscape style mirrored his own artistic journey. Beginning his career as a commercial letterer producing precise, controlled work, he later became a pioneer of bold outdoor painting. Although the Group of Seven formally formed after his untimely death, Thomson’s vision and influence inspired many of its members.
